Brazil 3-0 Argentina
Elano's double set up Brazil's win over South American rivals Argentina in the friendly at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

The midfielder, described by coach Dunga as the symbol of the new Brazil, scored with two incisive finishes.

Robinho set up the first goal, with Kaka creating the second, each time Elano beating Roberto Abbondanzieri with powerful shots.

Kaka added a third with a wonderful goal as he beat a series of Argentine players with a mesmerising run.

The friendly, watched by a near capacity crowd at Arsenal's new ground, provided an early glimpse of West Ham's new signings Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

Tevez was Argentina's most impressive attacking player and he drew a good save from Gomes with a close-ranger header.

But the former Corinthians forward, who has suffered disciplinary problems in his career, showed he could be riled as he had a couple of run-ins with Lucio.

Mascherano had a more uncertain start. His misplaced pass put Fabrizio Coloccini under pressure and the Deportivo La Coruna defender was forced to concede a corner.

At the break Mascherano was withdrawn to be replaced by Leandro Somoza.

Brazil scored with their first attack, Elano picking up Robinho's pass before his shot took a deflection off Daniel Bilos to beat Abbondanzieri after three minutes.

It was the first time the 25-year Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder had scored for his country.

The Argentina goalkeeper had better luck with another deflected Elano shot, adjusting his feet quickly to gather the ball to his chest.

On the half-hour Abbondanzieri foiled Robinho with a fine save after the Real Madrid sprinted past Coloccini.

Argentina proved a more potent attacking threat in the second half, with Tevez's cross setting up a chance for Lionel Messi, only for the Barcelona player to send his header high over the bar.

Just before the hour Messi and Luis Gonzalez combined to set up Pablo Zabaleta, who shot wide.

But Argentina were unable to find a way past Gomes and Brazil came out of their defensive shell to grab a second goal.

If Elano had profited from Robinho's vision and touch for his first goal, he was indebted to substitute Kaka for his second.

The AC Milan midfielder slipped a delightful pass through to Elano, who this time was able to beat Abbondanzieri without the need for a deflection.

Late on Kaka pounced on a Messi mistake to break from his own half, before he slalomed his way to the Argentina box to then slip the ball past Abbondanzieri.

Brazil will now play Wales on Tuesday at White Hart Lane, with Ronaldinho, who missed Sunday's game through injury, expected to feature.
